Explosion Prevention and Protection in the Sugar Industry

The sugar manufacturing process involves a risk of explosion due to the generation of combustible dust during various stages of the production process.

The level of risk, which is the result of a good and thorough assessment, must be the basis for determining what measures are necessary to reduce the risk.
Preventive measures may be sufficient to reduce the likelihood of the occurrence of explosive atmospheres and/or effective ignition sources, or, if the level of risk is maintained, additional protective measures may be necessary.
In the sugar industry, the main risks occur in two pieces of equipment: the bucket elevator and the bag filter of the dust extraction system.
