Chemical Suppression / Chemical Isolation

Chemical explosion suppression is an active protection system that acts in milliseconds, extinguishing the incipient flame and reducing the pressure before the explosion fully develops. It can be combined with a chemical isolation system, preventing the explosion from propagating through ducts to other connected equipment.

Chemical explosion suppression is an active protection system that acts in milliseconds, extinguishing the incipient flame and reducing the pressure before the explosion fully develops. It can be combined with a chemical isolation system, preventing the explosion from propagating through ducts to other connected equipment.

Its operation is based on the immediate detection of a deflagration by means of pressure sensors or infrared radiation. Upon detecting a sudden variation, the system triggers the discharge of an extinguishing agent (food-grade sodium bicarbonate), which floods the protected volume, eliminates the flame and reduces the internal pressure.

These systems are applied in closed equipment where the presence of combustible dust clouds is common and venting to the outside is not feasible, or where a quick, clean and closed solution is required. It is particularly suitable for grinding, conveying, mixing or storage of combustible solids.

How does it work?
The system acts in three phases:
1. Detection. Pressure detectors or infrared radiation identify the first signs of an explosion (sudden increase in pressure or flame formation).
2. Activation. The signal is transmitted to the control system, which verifies and activates the opening of the pressurized vessel.
3. Suppression and isolation. The extinguishing agent (food-grade baking soda) is released at high speed, extinguishing the flame and reducing the pressure. If it is a chemical isolation valve, it also blocks the spread to other equipment.
