The ExPinch system is an active isolation system that allows a deflagration to be effectively isolated within a piece of equipment or duct, preventing its spread to other areas of the installation. It is based on a “pinch” type choke valve that activates automatically and in milliseconds after the detection of an incipient explosion.
Operation is initiated by the signal from a pressure detector, which is processed by a line controller. This activates a solenoid valve that releases the compressed air contained in the tank, immediately closing the internal rubber sleeve by means of a quick clamping of the duct.
This instant closure ensures effective isolation against pressure wave and flame, preventing the explosion from propagating to equipment connected in series, such as filters, silos, elevators or pneumatic conveying systems.
