Hammer mills are equipment designed to crush or pulverize solid materials, but they also represent one of the sources of ignition in industrial processes. During their operation, they generate friction, heat, mechanical impacts and large amounts of fine dust in suspension, which makes them a critical point from the point of view of the risk of explosion.

During the grinding process, the hammers rotate at high speed and pulverize the product, generating a high concentration of suspended combustible dust. This environment, added to possible hot spots due to friction, mechanical failures, or the entry of foreign bodies (such as stones or metal parts), can cause a source of ignition.
In addition, mills are often interconnected with silos, filters, or elevators, which favors the spread of an explosion if effective isolation measures are not implemented.
