Explosion Prevention and Protection in the Sugar Industry

The sugar manufacturing process involves a risk of explosion due to the generation of combustible dust during various stages of production.

The level of risk, determined through a thorough and accurate assessment, should serve as the basis for identifying the necessary measures to reduce that risk.

Preventive measures may be sufficient to reduce the likelihood of explosive atmospheres (or ATEX) and/or effective ignition sources. However, if the risk level remains high, additional protective measures may be required.

In the sugar industry, the primary risks are associated with two key pieces of equipment: the bucket elevator and the bag filter in the dust extraction system.
