Explosion Protection and Prevention
in Dust Collectors

Dust collectors are essential for the collection and management of dust particles in industrial environments, but they also represent one of the largest points of explosion hazards. The accumulation of fine, dry dust, combined with an ignition source, can lead to deflagration within the equipment if proper safety measures are not applied.

At Adix, we protect these systems by combining protection measures such as explosion venting or active suppression and isolation to contain the explosion and prevent its spread, ensuring the safety of facilities and people.

Why can it be given
an explosion in a collector?

During normal operation, combustible dust can remain suspended or accumulate inside the filter, forming an explosive atmosphere. A simple spark, mechanical friction, overheating, or electrostatic discharge can act as an ignition source that initiates an explosion.

These explosions typically originate within the collector and spread rapidly through interconnected ducts to other equipment, such as silos, cyclones, or fans, causing significant structural damage and critical risks to the process and personnel.

Main risks
in Dust Collectors:

  • Ignition of dust accumulated in bags, collection chambers or internal surfaces.
  • Propagation of the deflagration to connected equipment such as cyclones, silos or fans.
  • Structural damage to the collector and adjacent areas.
  • Unplanned stops.
  • Risk to the safety of personnel.

ADIX Solutions for Dust Collectors

We apply a combination of prevention, protection and isolation measures, adapted to each process and in accordance with ATEX regulations (2014/34/EU) and international standards such as NFPA 68 and NFPA 69.

Explosion Venting

Domed or flat panels designed to safely release pressure.

Flameless Venting

Ideal for indoor spaces, avoids projections and secondary flame.

Active Suppression

Pressure or infrared sensors that activate an extinguishing agent that extinguish the deflagration in milliseconds.

Isolation

Flap valves or chemical barriers that prevent spread to other equipment.
