Design and development of a chemical explosion suppression equipment with an alternative activation system – Innova Adelante
Adix Ingeniería is a beneficiary company of the Innova-Adelante business innovation support program of the Junta de Comunidades de Castilla-La Mancha, 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Project objectives
The main objective of the subsidized research project is the development of a new chemical explosion suppression system with a faster discharge valve, with larger volume suppressant agent bottles and with an alternative activation system to the current ones based on pyrotechnic actuators.
The project will include the design of a new controller that allows greater connectivity and digitalization of explosion protection equipment, as well as the obtaining of data that provides information on the operation of the process so that, with the help of Big Data techniques, failures can be foreseen and the prediction of explosions or possible system malfunctions can be improved.
In addition, the new controller will allow continuous preventive-predictive maintenance of the system and apply telecare and augmented reality techniques.
Results
The main expected result is a calculation model that allows extrapolating the use of the devices to higher volumes and different reduced burst pressures as a function of the parameter kSt of the combustible substance.
On the other hand, it is expected to improve the functionality and maintenance of suppression systems, so that they are more easily exported to other markets where, today, there are technical barriers that make it difficult to market them.
This optimisation will always be carried out in accordance with the relevant regulations for explosion protection systems and will be certified in accordance with Directive 2014/34 EU.
