Design and Development of a Chemical Explosion Suppression System with an Alternative Activation System – Innova Adelante

Adix Ingeniería is a beneficiary of the business innovation support program Innova-Adelante of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha, 80% co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
Project objectives
The main objective of this funded research project is to develop a new chemical explosion suppression system with a faster discharge valve, larger suppressant containers and an activation system that is an alternative to today’s pyrotechnic actuators.
The project will include the design of a new controller that allows greater connectivity and digitalization of explosion protection equipment, as well as the collection of process data so that, with the help of Big Data techniques, failures can be anticipated and the prediction of explosions or system malfunctions can be improved.
The new controller will also allow continuous preventive and predictive maintenance of the system and the use of remote assistance and augmented reality.
Results
The main expected result is a calculation model to extrapolate the use of the devices to larger volumes and different reduced explosion pressures based on the KSt value of the combustible substance.
The project is also expected to improve the functionality and maintenance of suppression systems, making them easier to export to markets where technical barriers currently hinder their sale.
This optimization will always comply with the relevant standards for explosion protection systems and will be certified in accordance with Directive 2014/34/EU.
The Innova-Adelante
Innova-Adelante Program provides grants to strengthen companies in strategic sectors of Castilla-La Mancha by improving their capacity to innovate.
The program is part of the Adelante Plan of Castilla-La Mancha, in line with the smart, sustainable and inclusive growth priorities of the European Union’s Europe 2020 strategy and the challenges of Castilla-La Mancha’s RIS3 Regional Research and Innovation Strategy for Smart Specialization.
