The FST-4 ATEX optical detector is part of the chemical suppression and isolation system. It instantly detects the infrared radiation emitted by incipient combustion, allowing the extinguishing system to be triggered immediately before dangerous overpressures build up or the explosion propagates.
This detector is designed for use in combustible dust atmospheres (Zone 20), even in environments with some ambient light, as long as direct exposure to sunlight is avoided. In high-temperature applications, it can be used with a flexible fiber-optic adapter that protects the sensor and ensures reliable operation up to 482 °F (250 °C).
